A truly beautiful manor house. For anyone that enjoys quirky, quaint historic houses, this is for you. It is set in 25 acres of pretty grounds. Miskin manor is full of character and atmosphere with lovely views from the rooms. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Bring your camera.
I knew this would not be a great stay as the hotel is in administration, however some aspects were incredibly bad.Upstairs corridor has a ceiling leak dead in the middle, dripping into a bucket, mould growing heavily under the drooping sodden roof. The bed mattress was almost rock solid, sheets although definitely washed had old stains on them. The entire feel of the place is as though you've entered a 90's hotel with an olden days style applied.First night staying the door on our room would not stay locked and was openable from outside even with deadbolt engaged, this was resolved the next day but the reaction of the staff indicated this was a somewhat common occurrence! The lounge bar closed at 10PM and lights were being turned off giving us the 'vibe' we had to move on.The water pressure from shower and bath taps was akin to a light drizzle, running a bath took at least an hour. The temperature was just passably high enough for a comfortable shower.

We stayed for one night in a gorgeous 4 poster bedroom with stunning views of the gardens. Incredibly great service from the staff, Ryan, Trudy, Matt and Laura deserve an extra special shout out, they were all so friendly and welcoming. Stunning breakfast as well and we enjoyed some cute little walks around the grounds.

This is a beautiful hotel in great grounds and just 1 minute off the M4 motorway. All the olde worlde atmosphere is there and great views from the patio. The hotel has just been taken over after the previous family retired. It will soon undergo a upgrading and , with the right marketing and catering for diners and non residents , this place could be brilliant.

What a let down. We went to Miskin Manor for my birthday, so we thought we would push the boat out and went for a suite, we stayed in the Juliet Suite. The hotel looked great on the website, full of character, quite impressive. How wrong could we be. The tarrif for the suite was £140, this included dinner and breakfast. Seemed a good deal.We walked into the reception to check in. The reception was dark and smelt damp. We paid for the room and were then told that the dinner was to a maximum of £15 any more than this we would have to pay the extra, we were not made aware of this when we booked over the phone. We got our door card and started to make our way to the room. The corridors were dark and dingy and we had to step over a bucket that was there to catch water from a leak, I presume from the roof. On entering the room we were disappointed, the room was huge but felt cold. The building is graded building, grade 2 I think. The windows were original and not the best of fits. The dafts and road noise were horrendous. The window ledges where soaking wet, from were the rain had seeped through. Walking round the room it felt like there were holes in the floor under the carpet. If it wasnt hole, there was alot of flexibility in the boards. My wife has had a serious illness and her immune system is compromised, so cleanliness is very important. The room was filthy, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and dust everywhere. The decor was not as the pictures, the four poster bed in our suite, was painted grey and not wood as shown on the website. The bathroom was okay but the water pressure for the taps was non existent. So much so there was a sign sdvising you to runthe hot water tap in the bath until hot water came out, before using the shower. It was a bad start that got worse. The staff in the bar and restaurant were great but obviously over run I went to the bar for coffee during the afternoon and had to press a door bell and wait for the bar staff who were busy elsewhere. We had a table booked for our evening meal. The food was typical bar food but expensive. The bar and resteraunt again not the cleanest of rooms again cobwebs on the ceiling lights and dusty. We ate our meal and went back to our suite. The room, this may sound funny, felt very heavy and not welcoming. It felt like we were being watched, it made us feel nervous. We couldn't settle and with the cleanliness issues, about 2.00am, having had no sleep, we decided to leave and go home.We packed up and went down to reception to check out. Reception was empty, I called out but got no response. So I left my door card and we left. The front door was insecure anybody could have walked in.Needless to say we won't be going back and would not recommend this hotel. The hotel needs a shake up and alot of work is need to improve cleanliness and the customer experience.

Originally booked this as a valentines getaway for me and my partner. Advertised as a spa getaway so thought it would be the perfect place to go. On arrival we showed ourselves to the room but was massively disappointed and disgusted by the state of this room. There were used tissue under the bed side table. Rubbish under the bed. Pee on the toilet. A ring of dirt on the bath. Hair absolutely everywhere. Stains on the bed. Dirty cups. Dead bugs under the bedside table. Hairdryer did not work. When we went downstairs just to ask if the room could be recleaned we we’re to We were told to wait in the reception while they cleaned the room. I was more than understanding and did not kick up a fuss about the shocking state of the room only to find when we went back to the room that it had not been cleaned and everything was still as it was. We had to go back downstairs to ask it be recleaned once again. The receptionist then tried to tell me that the dirt on the bath was a scratch! Proceeds to wipe it with her finger only to figure out it was in fact dirt. Was offered a complimentary drink. Just one singular drink as an apology. Ended up having a bottle of wine which they paid £2.40 for. I did not want to ruin my own time and decided to still be polite about the whole thing. No change of room or refund was offered. Absolutely horrid place and standards are clearly on the floor. I am up for giving it another go once new management comes in but in no way would I recommend this place. Really disappointing considering my partner works hard for his money and we were looking forward to staying here. I was extremely understanding at first but no excuse for the abysmal performance and service at this establishment. You can see all the photos in this review to see the state of the room we were offered

I booked a table here for this evening's Valentine's Day dinner and arrived full of expectations as the hotel is a stunningly beautiful building in lovely grounds. On arrival, my partner and I were shown into the special Valentine's Day dining room, which had just 4 tables laid out. The special Valentine's Day treatment consisted of fake rose petals scattered on the tables and 2 fake plastic battery-operated tea lights. The room itself was cold and piped non-descript elevator music played in the background throughout the meal. However, having ordered our starters, main courses and desserts from the special Valentine's Day menu, it actually took around 20 minutes before someone came to ask us what we'd like to drink. The starters arrived after about 40 minutes and then there was a wait of an hour before the mains arrived. The desserts then took almost another hour to arrive despite me asking a waitress how long they would be and being told they were on their way. When they did arrive, one was 3 balls of ice cream served on an oval Ikea plate and the other a tirramisu in a tumbler glass. And this took an hour to prepare. To be fair, the starters and main courses were very nice, but the service was absolutely appalling. Not once during the duration of the meal (almost 3 hours) did anyone ask if any more drinks were wanted, if we were enjoying the meal, or if everything was OK.I didn't take pictures of the desserts as by the time they arrived, I'd lost the will to live. Then, to top things off, we went into the bar to pay and waited almost a quarter of an hour for TWO people in front of us to pay their bills. Three staff members behind the bar seemed completely confused as to who had ordered what and were having to be told by customers what drinks had been purchased and what food they'd had! It's such a shame as the whole atmosphere in the dining room, the terrible service, the almost unbearable wait between courses, and the total indifference of the staff ruined what should have been a special romantic meal. This really is not good enough, Miskin Manor!Hopefully, when the hotel is under new management, the standards will improve. Until then, I certainly won't be going back there.

Sad to see such a lovely building not being listed loved. Greeted by a bin full of rubbish before even walking into the building. Needed directions and went to ask two members of staff who carried on their conversation without looking up. Could be so much more

We booked this as a stop midway on our journey to meet friends for the weekend. Amazing place, nothing changed from its original features, and the room was a dream to be in. The surrounding gardens even though winter was still beautiful. Had an evening meal with family, and the cost was also good for 5 of us. Breakfast, as you can see, was prepared fresh as to your requirements. Staff, from walking through the grand entrance and greeted by the receptionist, was lovely, explained where everything was, and the waitering staff were polite, professional, and nothing was a problem if we asked for anything. If i were you and thinking of going to visit Wales, stay here as for us no more premier in/ travel lodge as when you get a service like this you want to come back. In fact, we have booked again for our journey back from West wales. Thanks to all the staff for making this stay a great one. Support places like this as they are a rare thing of beauty and need to stay for us to see history and enjoy reading about the owners' past and present in the corridor is fascinating. Well enough from me, visit and see for yourself.

Creepiest hotel ever. In administration. Hasn't had an update in 100 years. Mould in the rooms. Just an awful experience staying here. I hear it is haunted, so if you like that kind of thing, you do you. Card reader didn't work and had to BACS payment them. I think this is because of the administration

I would definitely stay here again. We took our dog so was staying in one of their little cottages. The bedroom and bathroom was very spacious. I didn't find any fault, I looked at the positive, it is seeped in history and love stepping back into another era. Breakfast was delicious and the lady who served us was the best hostess ever.

Unfortunately, I hit the character count limit detailing everything that I found wrong with this place so I have put the main points below.Staff are liars. The same breakfast was different every day.Day one, the bacon was like 2 strips of leather. The hot bath tap only allows water to trickle out so it takes a lifetime to run a bath, by the time it's full, the water is cool. They only make up the room when they can be bothered and even when they do, they don't clean or replace the used cups and glasses. You don't find out until they day off check-in that none of the advertised facilities are available (pool etc). They don't take card payment despite advertising they do, in fact, on the check in desk they have a sign showing that they accept a dozen or so payment methods, however, they're just joking, they don't.The hot water was bright yellow one night.

We were unaware that the hotel had gone into administration until we checked in and were advised .we were then informed that they would only expect cash .also, no pool .spa or treatments were available. The menu was very limited, so not great, but i must commend the staff who were outstanding when they don't really now there future at the moment.

Hmm. A very mixed bag. I cant score it OK as too many negatives.Looks like an amazing wedding venue but speaking only as a hotel stay. The Good.Beautiful old ostentatious building that has huge character in a lovely rural location. A little tired in places but part of the charm.Four poster room was large and full of character and historyThe Bad.Bed is not comfortable. Not horrendous but we both had back ache by morning. One of the staff members was clueless.Brought wine, didn't open it; asked for ketchup, never brought any,; asked for G&T in a gin glass, got it in a 1/2 pint glass. Asked for dessert. Told we couldnt have one. Didn't seem to know anything.Bar had nothing on draught. Looking at the reviews this has been a while. 7 or 8 pumps. All off. Appreciate things happen on a day but this has been more than a day or two. Not many alternatives.Spa had broken sauna. Again seems like this has been a while. Was a pretty well equipped gym but pool and a steam room doesn't make it a spa. No jacuzzi which is unusual and a touch disappointing. Decent sized pool with people playing ball games which ruled out a relaxing swim. Not the manors fault but a distinct lack of facilities.Room shower had ultra sensitive taps. Too hot (scolding) or cold. Couldn't get the temperature right despite micro adjustments to the taps. The UglyNo drinking water in the room and tap water not drinkable (sign to say so). Kettle in room but what are you supposed to use it with?. Wife went down at midnight to find a miserable security guard who was complaining he was tired??? Found us some water bottles but it's like this was unexpected. What are guests supposed to do??After booking a stay with dinner bed and breakfast the main restaurant wasn't serving. This was one of the draws from the web site. Not stated prior to arrival. On arrival we were made aware that they could only do the lounge menu (basically bar/pub food).OK a bit disappointing but we came down for dinner just before 8:30pm to be told they'd stopped serving???They then said they could fit us in and then said that of the 4 things on the menu they had no lasagne and no thick chips left.I had the burger and skinny fries and wife had fish and chips. Not bad, just not the dining we had hoped for when booked. VERY limited options especially if they also run out of the few things listed. Then to be told we couldnt have dessert either.......there were no starters at all either. All in all is this a quality establishment. Not based on this visit and I wouldn't recommend a stay here to anyWould I stay here again? NO. I'm afraid not. With a restaurant that couldn't do the food, a bar that couldn't do drinks, a spa that didn't have working facilities and staff (not all) who don't understand customer service it struck out on all 4 key elements.

The most uncomfortable stay I've had in a hotel; I could feel the springs through the mattress and duvet. I had to sleep on the duvet to make it slightly bearable. We were told you couldn't drink from the tap in the room, but they didn't provide a bottle or two of drinking water. I had to ask the bar staff how we get drinking water and they explained we have to bring bottles to them to fill; there was no sign in the room explaining how we get water though. We weren't given any information about when breakfast was or what was included; we had to ask. My family and I had dinner there and we had to ask for water to be provided, which took a long time to come. The food was OK. When we came to order dessert, we were told there was none and the chef had gone home. They seemed under-staffed and like the staff were inexperienced.

I stayed here with my partner and his family for the Wales rugby. When we arrived the staff were lovely and showed us where our rooms are. My partner and I had a double room on the top floor, I loved the old theme the room had but we noticed that we had mould and the wallpaper was coming away from the wall due to the damp in the room, although it didn't affect our stay we just didn't expect it in a 4* hotel. We got back from Wales rugby late at night and we were hungry but unfortunately the kitchen was closed but the staff were really nice and made us dinner even though the chef had closed the kitchen which was very kind of them. The breakfast was also amazing! Staff and view were excellent but just a shame about the room. But I would go again.

Lovely hotel and lovely staff. We were upgraded to a superior room in one of the cottages, which was nice & spacious. The spa was in another building which is just a couple mins walk, but we had it all to ourselves. Breakfast was nice & hot.Beautiful grounds located in the woods, nice & peaceful.

Disappointing stay, lovely location and easy to park, also adorable resident cat that was very friendly. But, our room stank of sewage drains, we were told last orders for food were half 7 but the kitchen closed early (we pre paid for the meal and was told we could use it the next day) to then be told the kitchen wasn't serving normal customers due to a wedding. The reception staff were really helpful but the kitchen and lounge staff we felt as if they did everything to not serve us. Eventually after we were agreed to be served the portion sizes on the food wernt great. This goes for the breakfast buffet too, understocked and everything was cold. For the money we reccomend driving across the road to castle mynach as the food is much betterWe've had better stays in the premier inn for a quarter for the price, very disappointed as it looked promising. On a more positive note the gym and spa are great and well equipped for what is essentially a hotel gym

Pamper me spa session at Miskin Manor, the massage treatment with hot stones was lovely as was the therapist and relaxation room. Though the pool and changing room could do either a face-lift, more loungers / seats and lockable lockers as all were broken also the sauna too was out of order......The Grazing board was lovely and staff running area was pleasant and accommodating.

For a 4 star hotel, we expected so much. Despite our 5 hour drive no meals provided due to a wedding being on. Our room was basic. Seen better Premier Inns which provide much more. Breakfast was lukewarm. We couldn't eat it. I've contacted management but still no reply. We truly expected better for the price we paid. Really disappointed.

Absolutely amazing stay at the Miskin Manor, they pulled out all the stops, even provided transport when the cabs/taxis were overwhelmed by a fanfare from a nearby concert. They treated guests like family and gave generous. The room was stately and beautiful. The grounds well maintained and mysterious.I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.As a female solo traveller I felt incredibly welcome and safe, will definitely return.

To begin with we were greeted by the kindest lady I believe I have ever me, Trudy truly couldn’t do enough for us! Trudy made this experience from arrival all the way through just perfect and seamless and exceeded our expectations not just but a small bit, but a lot.Our lodge was clean, the grounds are simply breathtaking. I would recommend to anyone. It’s a very peaceful place to be.We will be back and we will bring family next time perhaps for the other cabins!Wow is the only word that springs to mind when I think of our stay. We’re on the precipice of leaving now and I will be sad to see this estate in our rear view mirror. We thank you kindly for having us and especially thanks to Trudy for making this just that bit more special.See ya soon! Beautiful place to stay!We had a lovely spacious room which was immaculately clean! Nice hot shower, decent sized towels and a good bed.Staff were friendly and welcoming, we were a little late to breakfast as we didn’t realise it finished at 9:30am but we were still welcomed and told to stay as long as we wanted to eat our food, offered extra hot drinks well after everyone else had left. The hotel itself and the grounds are beautiful and well worth a visit!Thank you.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, especially Trudy at the front desk. The hotel and gardens are beautiful. We loved making friends with the resident cat. This place has so much character! The room was as expected, traditional but basic decor. We had no issues with the shower (pressure and heat were great). Unfortunately, the full lounge menu wasnt available, however, the food we ordered was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed 2 relaxing spa treatments (massage and facial). All in all, good value for money.

I recently got to photograph a wedding at Miskin Manor in South Wales. It was a wedding photographer's dream come true. The manor is an old building that has been beautifully restored. It made a beautiful setting for the ceremony and reception. The grounds are just as impressive, with many beautiful spots for portraits and group pictures. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they made sure that everything went smoothly on the day. The venue and its facilities were also very impressive to the couple and their guests. Miskin Manor is a great place for a wedding, and I hope to go there again in the future.

We were driving back from Swansea and decided to stop overnight as the drive was becoming a strain. The venue was in a stunning setting which we could only appreciate in the morning. We were upgraded to a four poster room as the heating was struggling in other areas. It was very cold but given the age and size of the venue we could see why. There were real fires lit in the reception and lounge areas. The decor was grand and looked very festive. We spoke to one staff member at breakfast who said the place was up for sale and struggling. He did give us a brief tour of the function rooms as one staff member was getting married that day so we had a sneak preview and the ceremony room was lovely and warm. It's certainly a lovely place for a wedding 💒 but definitely room for improvement. The cooked breakfast could be hotter and you had to go into a separate room and bring it back to your table. Overall it was satisfactory and staff were good.

Really surprised at some of the reviews. Sarah at front desk upgraded mine and my colleagues room as the standard rooms had no view. The dinner was quite slow to come out but it was fine. The house cat let us make a fuss of him. And we had a history lesson and an impromptu tour of the hotel including the bridal suite which was beautiful.

First impressions, stay not yet complete but … amazingly relaxing exfoliating body scrub by Claire. My skin is silky soft and I’m looking forward to the rest of my stay. I feel pampered and well-looked after. On arriving at the hotel, the reception staff listened to my particular requirements regarding a quiet and peaceful room and chose the perfect one for me. Thank you all.

Attended a wedding 2 days ago and from the very start there were problems. Went to order a drink and one till had froze so had to trek to another smaller bar upon which the bar staff couldn’t differentiate between red wine and white wine, to then later on not being able to be served by some of the staff as they were too young to serve alcohol. Later the food was brought out and was not even what the wedding party had ordered, staff seemed to have no clue what was suitable for people which food allergies and some people ended up with no food at all.Personally I ended up being sick later that night and many other guests at the wedding felt ill too later and next morning, 2 days on and I still don’t feel great. Will definitely steer clear of this place in future and I’m sure the wedding party were hugely disappointed and let down by this too.

Miskin Manor have been shirking their public rights of way responsibilities for years, even Amanda Rosenberg once categorically claiming “there is no public right of way and there never has been” (spoiler, there is and always has been), even placing a coded gate blocking the trail some years ago (blocking a Public Right of Way is a criminal offence) as well as that huge tree left for an age. But I am pleased that they are now finally taking responsibility and clearing the pathway with the installation of proper public accessible gates. The manor itself is very pretty and the bar staff have been pleasant when I’ve visited. The hot drinks were nice and not hugely expensive.

This is a tricky review to write. The service staff that you meet are great and helpful. The venue is magnificent However, you will get a strong sense that the 'leadership' behind them is; absent, woeful, unsupportive, incompetent and you will resent them too. What could have been a five star winner all round, so easily, managed to fall needlessly short at every test. The fixes were so simple but there seems to be no one in charge to support and encourage the staff who were over stretched. Let me say also our entire wedding entourage felt the same independently. In summary, nice place. Terrible management who deserve naming and shaming. I am sure this is a chronic problem not limited to our dates.(I have had a reply from the management but they do not seem to accept that the team are badly lead. )

My wife and I were celebrating a birthday and got a night away without the kids. Miskin is a lovely, romantic, rustic country house, steeped in history and very cosy. We relaxed, ate very well and enjoyed the bar. Big wedding on at the time which will pull on staff availability, but it was never a deal breaker! Highly recommended

Went for Sunday dinner, booked for 1pm but asked to arrive 15 minutes early.2.15pm still waiting for for starters. 2.30pm starters arrived very nice.Sunday dinner arrived next, oh cold tough meat. We required steak knives to cut it.Small portions roast potatoes were beautiful. Desert very nice waiting staff very helpful and apologetic about kitchen problems. We had coffee to finish. We explained our concerns to our waitress and to our surprise they only changed us £20 per person. So very happy in the end2 course's £253 course's £30And we had coffee on top.

The estate is fabulous with lovely herbaceous borders through the summer. The interior is grand but cosy with attentive staff and gourmet menus. We have spent many happy moments there with family and friends - hard to beat if you live in Cardiff.

Beautiful venue for a wedding. Fabulous room, gorgeous setting. However, when we went for breakfast at 9am, we were told there were no beans, black-pudding or even eggs left! It had been described as a full Welsh breakfast, but I would describe it as half an English! A shame, as our stay was very enjoyable otherwise.

We had our wedding here mid December and the staff were friendly, helpful and very organised. There was only a handful of us, but we were treated like a party they were making a huge profit from. My new bride and I were allocated a room called the nest and to say that it was spectacular really doesn't do it justice. Even my mother, who can be a little fussy could only point out the lack of a lift as it's only fault. Our food was delicious and we certainly couldn't eat it all despite some healthy appetites around the table. All in all we had a wonderful stay and a perfect wedding in some glorious surroundings. Thanks to everyone who made our day so special

Had a wonderful stay here with my son. The staff there are so nice and professional. Avril and Peter are wonderful. Such nice people. The front desk guy was great. It was all decorated for Christmas. Loved the grounds, the food and room. Would definitely stay here again.

We arrived for Christmas Festive Lunch, about 40 in the party. We ordered coffee in the lounge for five of us. The waitress placed the cups and saucers on the table, holding the cups with fingers and thumbs with fingers inside the cup. Not the most hygienic. At the dining tables, no Christmas crackers in sight. No drink or wine list offered. Just 2 bottles of still water for 6 diners. Starters seemed adequate although my sister could not cut her duck. Main course was mediocre at best. We were served first so our meal was at least warm, albeit undercooked. Others complained that meal and plates were cold. Roast potatoes were overcooked and hard, no other potatoes available. All other veg was undercooked. Desserts were OK, Christmas pudding was good as was the chocolate pot. No mince pies in evidence and tea and coffee were served as an afterthought with sugars bringing up the rear. The dining room was charged to the diners at £200 and meals charged at £30. Frankly, one of the worst festive meals that I have ever had.

Beautiful manor house set in gorgeous surroundings. Even saw a fox near the entrance as I walked in!! There are transparent pods outside where small groups can meet and have food. The staff were very accomodating and friendly. Service was excellent and it was busy inside. They were able to take into account gluten free request for one member of our party.

Went for a wedding. Really nice place. Visually appealing and makes for a relaxed yet upmarket setting for a special day. Good staff also and just a good all round place.

This is a 4 star hotel, with 5 star prices, that should be a 3 star. The decorating is very shabby with broken tiles in toilets and bathrooms. As I was leaving I even noticed what looked like a punch hole in the door to room 13 also the carpet was near thread bare infront of 1 of the rooms.

Me and my wife stopped here by chance for a spot of lunch and as we approach the venue we were pleasantly surprised with how beautiful the building and surrounding grounds were. The decor was perfect for the building and there were plenty of seats available to choose between in the drawing room. The menu had a good selection for lunch and we decided to go with a veggie option and a hamburger along with two sides. This is where our experience took a turn as we had a 45 minute wait when there was only two other couples in there dinning. When they did arrive they were nice but nothing special, however one of the side dishes was the wrong one and the other was under cooked. I don't think I'd be going back again for lunch/dinner, I would have considered going back for high tea until the fact I've just read some of the other reviews stating very similar thoughts on the high tea to what I thought of the lunch.
